I forgot

On Friday or Saturday I picked a bowl of lettuce from our lettuce starts.  Today I picked another handful of green beans and Jade got the first sugarsnap pea.  I'm amazed at the amount of peppers we have coming.  Especially this time of year.  After I make dinner I'm going to take the bowl of peppers I have in the fridge and chop and freeze them for cooking.  I made the kids refried beans with the anaheim peppers in them and they were so yummy.  Great flavor.  I just made them yesterday and I already need to make more.  I can't wait to try them in eggs.

Carrots & Swiss Chard

The carrots and swiss chard went in today in the large bed on the sunny side.  I'm hoping to plant some of the rainbow but I just planted the swiss chard with white stems.  Jade and Gauge helped plant the carrots.  They were so adorable.  I loved pouring seeds into their tiny hands.  Then Gauge would say, "Done! Some More!"  I was proud of them.  They were doing a really good job.  I figured they were just throwing the seeds down but they were actually dropping them in the holes.  Cuties.

Basil & Garlic

The basil and garlic went in.  I planted them in front of the tomatoes.  I don't really understand this companion planting but I'm willing to try it.  I had Ian extend the tomatoe beds to two feet out so I could plant more there.  It worked out great.  Garlic is the easiest thing in the world to plant.  I just picked some up at the grocery store.  Two bulbs planted both beds.

Garden Update

Last night in the dark we got most of my herbs in.  Some broad leaf sage, rosemary, dill, cilantro & oregano.  I planted some broccoli in 9 squares of the first bed with the green beans.  I was able to pick some greenbeans.  We planted them earlier but they have had a rough start do to critters munching on them and digging them up.  I think it's a skunk.  I finished planting the last of the lettuce.  Now we have bibb and ice berg.  We planted them 2 to a square since we will be picking them continually.

In the large bed on the sunny side of the house I planted an 8 foot row of spinach.  We picked a huge bowl of peppers.  Next year we will definately not take those out after the season.  We are going to leave these in to see how long they will go.  There are still lots of baby peppers on there.  Ian put in the tomatoes today.  I don't think he planted them on their sides this year.

Tomorrow I plan to get the carrots in and the garlic and basil.  We need to get some more beet seeds.
